Both Brandy and Val were adopted through Fortunate Pooches and Lab Rescue, a nonprofit organization dedicated to saving Labradors and Lab Mixes that are abandoned in shelters and animal control facilities. Their staff is composed entirely of volunteers. They recently opened a new, sprawling cageless adoption center.
Zachary, for whom the first two books were written, suffers from Prader-Willi Syndrome which currently has no cure. The Foundation's mission is to eliminate the challenges of Prader-Willi Syndrome though the advancement of research. All procceds go towards funding research.
The Nation's largest sanctuary for abused and abandoned animals. Beat Friends' extraordinary efforts during Hurricane Katrina helped reunite some 1,500 pets with their people and helped in the rescue of between 5,000 and 7,000 abandoned animals.
Brandy and Val are registered therapy dogs who, with with their parents, participate in Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy programs. Rainbow is the largest organization of its type in metropolitan Chicago and is made up entirely of volunteers whose mission is to help people, especially those with special needs, improve their health, activities of daily living and quality of life.
